Tonight we went to Terry Blacks Barbecue for dinner. It is a super popular local place with several locations in central Texas, that everyone said we had to try. The Black family has several projects coming soon including boutique hotels, event venues, and more restaurants. It was founded by three siblings in 2014 and named after their father Terry. Austin’s was actually the first location so it was cool to be able to eat there. It is market style, so you walk in and there is a bar near the door and then lines to order your sides and main meal, then you find a seat at one of the picnic benches. It was super nice weather so we sat outside and enjoyed the sunset while we waited. 

Part of the group ordered on their own and part did family style so that we could try multiple things and also it was cheaper that way. Most students got either ribs or a brisket sandwich and a few tried jalapeño sausage.  For sides they enjoyed cream corn, green beans, and Mac n cheese. Finally for dessert there was peach cobbler, pecan pie, and banana pudding. Overall everyone really enjoyed dinner, below is a figure detailing their ratings of it (out of 10).

The atmosphere was really good, it was hectic inside when ordering but they were very efficient and the lines moved super quickly especially for how many people were there. The employees working there were super friendly. When we first walked in, Destiny, one of the bartenders explained how it all worked and let us know that three Destiny’s worked there and they were all happy to help if we needed anything. The last group to go through the line struck up a conversation with the cashier and the employee cutting the brisket and they were super nice. They ended up offering the students free pieces of brisket to try and then extra after we ordered and a sticker that said Terry Black’s. 

Everything was super good, the only critiques were that the sauces could have been better, it was a bit expensive, and the meat could have hotter. One student, Christian Sechel, rated it a solid 8.5 out of 10, remarking “The sauce could have been better and I’m upset I didn’t get free stuff like my friends.” 

The desserts were super delicious, all were a crowd favorite, but the peach cobbler stood out as extra good. Despite being absolutely stuffed walking out, a few students decided to go for gelato at Gelato Paradiso on the way back to the Airbnb and it was exploding with flavor, especially the espresso and strawberry shortcake flavors.
